What to Expect
It works best if you can look over my website to see if my therapy approach seems to match what you think you need. The process starts by you calling me. On the phone, we will talk briefly about what you are looking for in therapy, and I can explain more about therapy with me. If it seems like we could work together, then we would set up an appointment to meet. I will ask you to review a number of documents about therapy and your privacy, etc., and also to fill out some questionnaires about yourself. All of these documents are available as PDFs on the First Session Documents page. We would review these things in the first meeting.
Finding a good match is important and cannot necessarily be determined right away. The first few sessions are part of the intake process, which will give us time to see how well we work together. After two or three sessions, we can decide together whether or not to continue together for therapy. If either of us decide that you might be better served by another type of therapy, I can offer referrals to other therapists or services that would better suit your needs, and I can also send them a report, with your permission, based on the information I gathered at that first meeting(s). If we decide to continue to work together, we’d write out your therapy goals and start assessing problems and taking action!
